If you're seeking peace and quiet, look no further than
the waterways of East of England. The secret rivers of the Fens, augmented
by the drainage channels of 16th century engineer Cornelius Vermuylen,
have a beautiful, otherworldly character that many find captivating. Cruise
past the cathedral cities of Ely and Peterborough, explore historic Cambridge,
or discover country life in bustling market towns.
Take a seaside day trip and stroll along the sandy beaches
of Hunstanton and Sheringhamand, stretch out on the sand or order fresh
lobster at a seafront pub. To the east of Norwich, the Norfolk and Suffolk
Broads are a world apart of slow-flowing rivers and flooded former peat-diggings,
of rare birds and unique plants, and of sailing yachts and motor boats
enjoying classic Broadland cruising. Many are attracted to the bustling
village of Wroxham - 'the capital of the Broads' - or the traditional
seaside delights of Great Yarmouth or Lowestoft. In contrast there’s
the exceptional wildlife to be found in internationally renowned wetland
habitat.
Explore the waterways of the East by cycling country lanes,
walking riverbank paths, by silent electric boat or simply visiting the
inns once patronised by ferrymen and skippers of the local ‘wherry’
yachts.
